Barrow to Shrewsbury
Departs – Wednesday 21 March 2018
From Barrow, Ulverston, Grange over Sands, Carnforth, Lancaster, Preston, Leyland, Wigan North Western and Warrington Bank Quay.
Join us for a nostalgic day out and enjoy the thrill of steam haulage on the circular route which takes in the lovely scenery of the Welsh Borders.
Departing from Barrow in Furness we travel around Morecambe Bay with diesel in charge and, after passing through Carnforth, join the West Coast Main Line south to Crewe where our steam engine awaits.
Our diesel is detached and our steam locomotive reverses on to the coaching stock, ready to take charge for a scenic journey through Chester and the rolling hills of Welsh Border country. Passing through Wrexham, Ruabon, Chirk and Gobowen, we can enjoy the smells and sounds of days gone by as our locomotive works hard with its heavy load en route to the historic town of Shrewsbury, where we break our journey.
Standing in a loop of the River Severn Shrewsbury is an attractive destination with its cobbled streets, half timbered buildings and pedestrianised centre, all making for a pleasant break.
After our visit we rejoin our steam hauled train for the return trip to Crewe, this time taking the line through Whitchurch and Wrenbury so completing a circular run.
Our diesel now rejoins the train and takes over for the return run along with West Coast Main Line to Barrow.
PREMIER DINING CLASS: Includes an at seat silver service of full English Breakfast in the morning and a four course meal on the return journey all freshly prepared by our skilled chefs on board the train.
FIRST CLASS: First Class passengers will be served a selection of Tulip Muffins, freshly brewed coffee and fine teas on the outward journey and a savoury refreshment box followed by cake of the day and freshly brewed coffee and fine teas on the return journey.
CHILDREN UNDER 5 can be brought on the train free of charge only if not taking up a seat and sharing seats with accompanying adults.
REFRESHMENTS: A buffet counter service of snacks, hot and cold drinks, and alcoholic beverages is available to all our Standard and First Class passengers throughout the day. You are also welcome to bring your own refreshments or indeed a tasty picnic to enjoy as the countryside passes by!
First Class and Premier Dining passengers can book a private table for a supplement of £20.00 per person.
