The Lancastrian 2013

Departs Saturday 9th February 2013 from Cleethorpes, Grimsby, Habrough, Barnetby, Scunthorpe and Thorne.

Break those winter blues with a scenic trip by steam train which combines the scenery of the Lune and Kibble Valleys with a short break in the historic town of Lancaster.

Departing around 0630 from Cleethorpes (approx 0745 from Scunthorpe) we travel with diesel haulage across country to Preston on the west coast. At Preston we detach our diesel and steam takes over for a lovely circular tour around the Forest of Bowland. From Preston we head north behind steam and run alongside the Lancaster canal, cross the River Lune and pass through Lancaster itself before enjoying views across Morecambe Bay. Leaving the main line at Carnforth and turning inland towards Clapham and Settle we skirt the beautiful Yorkshire Dales before running along the Ribble Valley through Clitheroe and back onto the West Coast Main Line to Lancaster where we break our journey. After a break of two to three hours we return, diesel hauled once again, across country to Cleethorpes arriving around 2215 (Scunthorpe around 2100). In the event of a failure of our steam engine the tour will operate with diesel throughout and we will refund the steam supplement of £5.00.
