We combine two of England’s most scenic railways to give a circular tour around the English Lake District by train offering views that are second to none. Departing St Neots around 0600 we head for Doncaster (approx. 0800) and then passing through the Leeds area and Skipton we take the famous Settle route to Carlisle with its glorious Dales views, riverside scenes and stunning viaducts across some rugged terrain and through the Eden Valley towards Carlisle.
After a break of between two and three hours in Carlisle we return along one of England’s lesser known but truly stunning railways ‘The Cumbrian Coast Line’. The train hugs the coast as it makes its way through Maryport, Whitehaven, Ravenglass, Grange Over Sands and alongside Morecambe Bay – skirting the English Lake District all the way with spectacular mountain and sea views. We then return across the breadth of the country to Doncaster arriving around 2030 and continuing through Peterborough (approx. 2220) to arrive St Neots around 2300. The Cumbrian coast Line is a route that may not be so well known but once travelled will never be forgotten.
