Enjoy a nostalgic day out aboard our heritage train with steam in charge from York to Scarborough and around the Wolds Coast to give a lovely circular tour through roiling Yorkshire countryside with free time in its premier resort.
Departing St Neots around 06:30 (Peterborough around 07:00 and Doncaster approx 08:30 for example) we travel behind diesel traction to York where we say goodbye to our diesel engine and make our first run behind steam retracing the route of the famous Scarborough Spa express. The smell and noise of steam power will evoke memories of the great days of rail travel as we power our way to the seaside resort of Scarborough.
We expect to break for three hours or so in Scarborough during which time our engine will be watered and turned for the run along the Wolds Coast through Filey, Bridlington and Beverley towards Hull from where we head west alongside the River Humber and under the towering suspension bridge through Selby and back to York.
After a short stop in York to change back to diesel haulage we return to our home stations expecting to arrive back into Doncaster around 20:00 and St Neots approx 22:00 for example (all time shown are very approximate).
All first and standard class passengers will have access to a buffet and those passengers booking dining will be served a full English breakfast and elevenses on the outward journey to Scarborough and a four course dinner on the return leg.
At the time of writing the line from Scarborough to Bridlington and Hull is open to steam by special request, which has been made. If the situation changes and we are not permitted along the Wolds Coast line we will still run behind steam from York to Scarborough and then from Scarborough back to York. In addition we will then run around the South Yorkshire loop (through Church Fenton and Wakefield) behind steam and back to York once again where we will change back to diesel for the run to St Neots. Should our steam engine fail we will operate the tour by diesel train and refund the steam supplement of £10.00.
