The U.K.’s Leading Special Trains Operator
THE JACOBITE
Described as one of the great railway journeys of the world this 84 mile round trip takes you past a list of impressive extremes.
Starting near the highest mountain in Britain, Ben Nevis, it visits Britain's most westerly mainland railway station, Arisaig; passes close by the deepest freshwater loch in Britain, Loch Morar and the shortest river in Britain, River Morar, finally arriving next to the deepest seawater loch in Europe, Loch Nevis!
After crossing the world famous 21 arch Glenfinnan viaduct (you may recall the scene in the Harry Potter films) which offers wonderful views down Loch Shiel to the site of the raising of Bonnie Prince Charlie’s standard in 1745, the train stops at Glenfinnan station on the outward journey, giving you time to stretch your legs and visit the Museum in the station buildings.
On then through the villages of Lochailort, Arisaig and Morar to Mallaig.
From Arisaig you might be lucky enough to see the ‘Small Isles’ of Rum, Eigg, Muck, Canna and the southern tip of Skye. From Morar see the silvery beaches made famous as locations for the films Highlander and Local Hero.
The train leaves Fort William in the morning at 10:20 and arrives at Mallaig at 12.25.
Leaving Mallaig at 14.10 sharp you will arrive back into Fort William at 16.00 (in time for an onward journey to Glasgow or a ScotRail service train back to Mallaig if required).
Due to industrial action by Scottish signallers, West Coast Railways regret that ‘The Jacobite’ will not run on Tuesday 7th October or Thursday 9th October.
On both Wednesday 8th October and Friday 10th October the following timetable will be in operation:
Depart Fort William 12:40
