Southport to Whitby and Esk Valley
Departs – Thursday 05 July 2018
From Southport, Burscough, Parbold, Wigan, Walkden, Manchester Victoria, Rochdale and Todmorden.
Travel coast to coast on our heritage special to the picturesque North Yorkshire resort of Whitby. After crossing the Pennines, our diesel hauled special heads along the main line to Northallerton and then we travel east towards the coast.
Our journey takes us along the single track rural railway which snakes its way along the Esk Valley with the upland scenery of the rugged North Yorkshire Moors to enjoy from the comfort of your reserved seat. Passing through pretty villages such as Danby and Castleton en route adds to the spectacle and, after passing through Grosmont, the terminus of the North Yorkshire Moors steam railway, we soon find ourselves in Whitby where we break our journey.
Whitby is a charming resort with cobbled streets, a busy harbour, lots of curio shops and arguably some of the best fish and chips in the country. You may wish to visit the Abbey or take a boat trip - but whatever your choice, Whitby is bound to leave memories to cherish.
We now rejoin our train and head for home with more splendid views to enjoy as we retrace our route along the Esk Valley and across the Pennines to home stations.
